Abstract

In the context of the transition to a knowledge economy and the intensification of competition among global cities, education is becoming not merely a social service but a driver of spatial development and a key element of megacity branding. Nevertheless, the geographical aspects of the territorial organization of education and its feedback effects on Moscow’s urban environment remain only fragmentarily studied, creating a notable gap in the theory and practice of human geography. The aim of this study is to identify and substantiate the conceptual framework of educational geourbanistics as applied to the territory of Moscow. Based on geoinformation and statistical analysis of data from the Moscow Government portal, as well as a synthesis of SWOT- and PESTEL-analyses, a pronounced spatial differentiation of educational institutions has been identified. It has been established that the Zelenograd, Novomoskovsky, and Troitsky administrative districts form the “educational periphery” of the capital. The study demonstrates that the concentration of intellectual resources acts as a system-forming factor in positioning Moscow as an “educational hub.” The results contribute to the development of the theoretical and methodological apparatus of socio-economic geography by expanding the scope of geourban studies through the educational component.
